Microsoft Windows - October Update and Network Printing

Resolved
Resolved

For all windows users we are now pushing a new Windows Update to resolve the printing issue.

To check if you already have the fix you can go to the search menu in the start bar and type winver and hit return. If the OS version ends in 1320 you have the latest update applied and you will be fine to print. If the OS version ends in 1288 you need to install the update.

(Whilst on campus) -> Please go to Start button -> Settings (cog icon) -> and scroll down to Update and Security and there should be KB5006738 waiting to install. If not please click on Check Updates.

We have also removed any temporary print queues so should be using Find-Me queue.

If the Find-Me print is not default then google search "How to set a default printer in Windows 10" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to-set-a-default-printer-in-windows-10-e10cf8b8-e596-b102-bf84-c41022b5036f

Recovering

Tomorrow we hope to be deploying a script that on startup of the computer will provide a workaround to the October update bug.

If a student or yourself is experiencing an issue with print if possible please come to the ICT desk where you have a portable device.

Also the original fix for the administration credentials prompt did not fix the issue. But we have now fixed the fix.

This requires your computer to get new policy settings from the server. These can take sometime to refresh.

Update:

In addition to not being able to print some users are experiencing a prompt to Install Drivers. We have created a fix for this. If you contact ICT we can force a policy change to resolve it. It does require the device to be rebooted afterwards.

We are working on a script to workaround the October update bug which we are testing at the moment. This all takes time to configure and test. Please bear with us.

Regards,

John

Hi All, Please be aware that Windows computers have updated to the latest patch and are now unable to print. This is affecting all computers that have updated to the latest update. Please bear with us as we try and find a workaround solution. As yet Microsoft have provided no fix or workaround.

The latest Microsoft Cumulative Update is causing issues for some users with network printing. We have paused the rollout of the update until a workaround is found. If you or a student is unable to print from a school device please seek assistance from Yasmin.
